GRADUATE COLLECTION: LOST BUT FOUND

COLLECTION STATEMENT

The project's concept is about us as a society becoming out of touch emotionally with each other. In this fast-paced modern environment, it is more important than ever to understand one's need to feel ‘home’ and how it aims to prompt individuals to explore their own identity. My garments encourage viewers to emotionally engage with their clothing by making conscious actions to slow down their consumption behaviors. My collection promotes a sad irony with a little romantic touch to it.

All collection pieces were developed in 3D software (3D CLO). For the used materials, I collected deadstock of Toronto based companies such as ‘Beaufille’ and wholesaler the ‘Fabric Room’ for fabrics and whenever it was possible for hardware. Some of my garments are hardware free or executed with Oeko-Tex certified trim only. For the textile manipulation, I layered sourced fabrics pairing them and reusing their scraps to create unique textures. I reworked one fabric on its own, manually adjusting its weave. I was also interested in developing and integrating a biotextile in my collection, Kombucha leather. Though I didn’t use it in my collection in the end, tests I’ve developed are promising and I’m interested in experimenting with biotextiles in my future projects.

In the moment of the world’s pausing due to covid-19, it is essential to reconnect with your inner self and with others.
